Required Fields Not Working

Created by RivioApps Support, Modified on Fri, 21 Aug at 3:10 PM by RivioApps Support

If a field marked as Required is not behaving as expected, customers may be able to leave the field empty or the form may prevent submission without clearly showing what needs to be completed.

Follow the steps below to check and resolve common required-field issues.

Check the Required Setting

First, make sure the field is actually configured as required.

  1. Open Rivio B2B Registration Forms from your Shopify Admin.
  2. Go to Forms.
  3. Open the form where the issue occurs.
  4. Select the field that should be required.
  5. Check the field settings.
  6. Make sure the Required option is enabled.
  7. Save the form.

Once enabled, customers should be required to complete the field before submitting the form.

Test the Required Field

After enabling the required option, test the form from your storefront.

  1. Open the page containing the registration form.
  2. Leave the required field empty.
  3. Complete the other required information.
  4. Click Submit.
  5. Check whether a validation message appears for the empty field.

The form should prevent submission until the required field has been completed.

Check the Validation Message

Make sure customers receive a clear message when they leave a required field empty.

For example:

This field is required.

A clear validation message helps customers understand what information is missing and how to complete the form.

Check Different Field Types

Required validation can apply to different types of fields, including:

  • Text Field
  • Email Field
  • Phone Number Field
  • Number Field
  • Text Area
  • Dropdown
  • Radio Buttons
  • Checkboxes
  • Date Picker
  • File Upload
  • Address Field

For fields such as DropdownRadio Buttons, and Checkboxes, make sure the customer has selected an appropriate option before submitting the form.

Check File Upload Fields

If a File Upload field is required, customers must upload a file before submitting the form.

Also check whether the uploaded file meets the configured file type and size restrictions.

If the file does not meet the requirements, the customer should correct the upload before submitting the form.

Check the Live Storefront

If the required setting works in the form editor but not on your storefront, check the live form.

Make sure:

  • The correct form is published.
  • The correct Form Slug is used.
  • The latest form changes have been saved.
  • The correct form is displayed on the storefront.

After making changes, refresh the storefront and test the form again.

Check for Theme or App Conflicts

If required validation still does not work, another theme setting or installed app may be affecting the form.

Check whether:

  • Your theme has custom form scripts.
  • Another app is modifying the form.
  • Custom JavaScript has been added to the page.
  • The issue occurs only on a specific theme or page.

If the issue started after installing another app or changing your theme, this may help identify the cause.

Contact Support

If required fields still do not work after checking the settings, contact the Rivio B2B Registration Forms support team.

Provide the following information:

  • Your Shopify store URL
  • The affected form name
  • The field that is not working
  • The field type
  • A description of the issue
  • A screenshot or screen recording, if available

This information can help the support team investigate the issue more quickly.

Summary

If a required field is not working correctly, first check that the Required option is enabled in the field settings. Then test the field on your live storefront and verify that the appropriate validation message appears.

If the issue continues, check the form configuration, theme settings, and possible app conflicts before contacting support.
