If customers cannot upload a file while submitting a registration form, the issue may be related to the file type, file size, required settings, or the customer's browser or connection.
Follow the steps below to identify and resolve common file upload errors.
Check the File Type
The File Upload field may only accept specific file types configured in the form.
Before uploading a file, make sure the file format is supported.
Common file types may include:
- JPG
- JPEG
- PNG
- DOC
- DOCX
If the selected file type is not allowed, the customer may receive a validation message and will need to upload a supported file.
Check the File Size
If a maximum file size has been configured, the uploaded file must stay within that limit.
For example, if the maximum allowed size is 5 MB, a file larger than 5 MB cannot be uploaded.
If the file is too large, ask the customer to:
- Reduce the file size.
- Compress the file if appropriate.
- Upload the smaller file again.
Check File Upload Settings
To review the file upload configuration:
- Open Rivio B2B Registration Forms from your Shopify Admin.
- Go to Forms.
- Open the form containing the File Upload field.
- Select the File Upload field.
- Review the allowed file types and file size restrictions.
- Make any required changes.
- Save the form.
Check if the File Upload Is Required
If the File Upload field is marked as required, customers must upload a file before they can submit the form.
If the customer does not have a file to upload, the form submission may be blocked.
If a file is optional, make sure the Required option is disabled in the field settings.
Check the Validation Message
When an upload fails, the form should display a message explaining the problem.
For example:
- File type is not supported.
- File size is too large.
- This field is required.
- Please select a valid file.
Use the message to identify what needs to be corrected before trying the upload again.
Try Another File
To determine whether the issue is related to a specific file, try uploading a different file that meets the configured requirements.
If the second file uploads successfully, the original file may be unsupported, too large, or corrupted.
Check the Browser
If the file meets all requirements but still cannot be uploaded, try:
- Refreshing the page.
- Using another browser.
- Clearing the browser cache.
- Disabling browser extensions temporarily.
- Trying the upload from another device.
This can help determine whether the issue is browser-specific.
Check Your Internet Connection
A slow or unstable internet connection can sometimes interrupt file uploads.
Make sure the customer has a stable internet connection and try uploading the file again.
Test the File Upload on Your Storefront
After changing the File Upload settings, test the form yourself.
Check that:
- The File Upload field is visible.
- The file type is accepted.
- The file size restriction works correctly.
- Required validation works as expected.
- The form can be submitted after a valid file is uploaded.
Contact Support
If customers continue to experience file upload errors after checking the above settings, contact the Rivio B2B Registration Forms support team.
Provide:
- Your Shopify store URL
- The affected form name
- The File Upload field settings
- The file type and approximate file size being uploaded
- The exact error message
- A screenshot or screen recording, if available
This information can help the support team identify the cause of the issue more quickly.
Summary
Most file upload errors are caused by an unsupported file type, an oversized file, or File Upload field settings. Check the allowed file types, file size limits, and required settings first.
If the file meets all requirements but the upload still fails, test another browser or device and check the internet connection. If the issue continues, contact support with the relevant details.
